Do you know about the National Union of Professional Foster Carers (NUPFC)? Well, you should! The National Union of Professional Foster Carers (NUPFC) was established in 2021, becoming the first government-approved and certified trade union for foster carers. They work with fostering agencies to improve pay and conditions for all foster carers, campaign for foster carers’ rights and status, and provide independent support and legal representation for foster carers in the event of problems between the carer and the local authority and/or the fostering agency.

Because they provide truly independent advise and support, they publish powerful and thought provoking articles, and put on meaningful training. If you are already with an agency or Local Authority ask them to support your membership. If they won't, ask yourself why not? if we all work transparently and collaboratively ALL independent support organisations should be available and promoted. We advocate for the Union as in our role as carers the support and advise they have given us has been invaluable. Carers need to know there is somewhere to go for support if they need it and aren't able to get it from who they are registered with. In the case of allegations under the regulations there is only so much as a service we can do and I rest easy knowing that the carers with us have proper support and guidance in place. As a service we urge all carers registered with us to join.
